Today is the selection finalizations. Please make a final pass through the applications and see if things look okay with you. I went ahead and assigned students to the students that have floated towards the top but if someone else (e.g., yukonbob or poolio) wants to be designated, please do mark the "I am willing to mentor this student" button on their application.
The applications scored with a "1" are still competing with those marked with a "0", but thus far are the two that have risen above the others and seem to be easier to work with with greater long-term potential. Still, feel free to comment on any of those if you think someone else deserves the slot more than one of the other two.
Students,While we will have finalized selections after today, some adjustments may still occur so we still cannot announce final rankings until the 20th. Thank you to everyone that applied, though, and for all the hard effort that has gone into your applications. If you aren't selected, I hope you will still consider getting involved in open source development (whether with BRL-CAD or with another open source project).
Getting involved much earlier on with a community is something that I would recommend for many of you that are able to apply to GSoC again. Along with having a genuine long-term interest in working with that open source project can be a very rewarding "hobby", a phenomenal addition to your resumé, a way for you personally to make a major impact on society, and is a great way to meet and interact with lots of really interesting people around the world. Find your coding itch and scratch it.
