My 2 cents:

After being convinced that the new "default" installation (versioned)
was a good thing, I was happy with the default BRLCAD_INSTALL_ROOT
(/usr/brlcad/rel-X.Y.Z or the corresponding /usr/brlcad/dev-X.Y.Z).
(Though I don't understand why we need symlinks from there to standard
system directories.) I don't want to go back to having to specify my
own installation places--I just want something I can count on (e.g.,
MANPATH, PATH, etc., based on a constant relation to
BRLCAD_INSTALL_ROOT).

Best regards,

-Tom
