GCI MENTORS (and anyone interested in being one), The start date is approaching quickly and we still have a lot of work to do. There are several preparations that still must be completed before Monday.
#1 - First and foremost, SIGN UP on the Melange website and "make a connection" with BRL-CAD so you can be a mentor. #2 - If you don't have commit access, have never submitted a patch, or otherwise have not contributed to BRL-CAD before, I'd ask that you complete at least one of the Deuces tasks [1] to so you at least familiar with what participants are faced with. Remember these tasks are designed to take someone familiar with the requirements about two hours, so it might take you far less or more depending on your experience. Any task works, doesn't have to be a coding task. If you do have commit or have otherwise measurably contributed to BRL-CAD before, you're good to go. #3 - Define more GCI tasks. We need about 100 more, so 10 from each mentor should be sufficient. Every task needs to a) give background information, b) specifically state what the task involves, c) list any code that will need to be read or modified, d) list any helpful references (websites), and e) tell them exactly what to provide and how to provide it if not stated succinctly in (b). #4 - Tackle anything remaining on http://brlcad.org/wiki/Google_Code_In/2013/TODO A BIG thank you to everyone that has helped us get set up thus far including several wiki updates by Kesha and Mandeep and Inderpreet, the disk image prep work by Tom, Gauravjeet's GCI 2012 article, and ALL the mentoring interest expressed. Apologies if I overlooked mentioning anyones efforts! You're certainly welcome to summarize yourself. Please try to do these by Friday so we have an accurate head count. I'll be sending out a survey later to figure out what people's availability looks like for being assigned particular days of the week. E-mail me directly if you're interested in being a mentor, but you feel you're unable to complete #1/#2/#3 by Friday! This is going to be pretty exciting! Cheers! Sean [1] http://brlcad.org/wiki/Deuces p.s. Someone needs to add a task to design a BRL-CAD t-shirt. Maybe new sticker, coffee mug, and cover art for our new Doc Camp book too. We need some shwag tasks. :-) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ DreamFactory - Open Source REST & JSON Services for HTML5 & Native Apps OAuth, Users, Roles, SQL, NoSQL, BLOB Storage and External API Access Free app hosting.
