Note that many instances of "acknowledgement" were changed to
"acknowledgment", but either spelling is correct (and neither is
considered preferred) according to my sources (including my personal
favorite: "Webster's New World College Dictionary," Third Edition).

So I think we need a style guide or preferred spelling list (or rule
or preferred dictionary) to avoid periodic spelling changes when a
reader prefers one over the other (although I do agree that
consistency of spelling in the code is a Good Thing).
