Yes it is really a good idea but it seems much like the editing feature. You can elaborate more if you want, but currently our focus is on just viewer part, we could think about editing later. But that doesn't mean we simply discard it, in fact we need such ideas to incorporate into OGV, if not now probably in future. > I have a question though, is making a mediawiki extension entirely a > different project ? Yes it is a different project having the basic concept same as that of OGV i.e. visualizing geometry on browser. Currently Mediawiki is providing support to upload pictures, audio and video files making them available for use by anyone. Now they want to extend their support by representing 3D computer graphics on browser. This way, every Mediawiki based website with the help of this plugin/extension would be able to display geometry. This project have to be designed as a module to Mediawiki or some CMS. The user would upload a geometry file (e.g., a .g file) as content into the system (like uploading a file into Mediawiki), and then reference that file (e.g., [Geometry:file.g]), causing our plugin to read the g file, parse the data into a visualization context. The basic requirements for this plugin/extension have already been stated in the link referred by you earlier: http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2014-January/073915.html While OGV is aimed to become full fledged online geometry service where users would be able to investigate / convert geometry, store, manage and share their CAD files. -- Harmanpreet Singh Blog: http://singhharman.wordpress.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Learn Graph Databases - Download FREE O'Reilly Book "Graph Databases" is the definitive new guide to graph databases and their applications.
