Agree with meteor as a good framework candidate.   The three.js package for
meteor on atmosphere is a year old, however, so may need updating.   Here
is another https://github.com/nozpheratu/three-meteor.   Also recommend
that you take a look at the meteor package for x3dom and compare the
capabilities and performance with three.js.   May be better to use x3dom
for some use cases like modeling instead of viewing.   Also, take a look at
