That's true. It's also true that mentors do this in their spare time.
Most have jobs, others are academics. What I want to picture is that it's
not mentors' desire to expose students to a lack of communication.
Mentors are forced to efficient communication out of necessity. In some
years, there are about 40 applicants to BRL-CAD( I pulled this number out
of my hat, I believe it s reasonably higher). If they spend 10 minutes
writing an email to each student, explaining what to do, how to do,
basically, everything that they could find out with a simple search. It
would take 400 minutes(6 hours and 40 minutes)

Now.
1. have you donwloaded BRL-CAD and compiled it from source? If not, have
you downloaded the binary, or the VM ?Maybe you did, we wouldn't know.
2. Have you ever run mged? Maybe you do, we wouldn't know.
3. Do you know what CAD or CSG implies? Quite possibly you do, we wouldn't
know.
What to do, what to do.
Look over the idea list, pick one or two from the list or propose your own.
Do your research, answer why and how you want to do it. (It doesn't have to
be a prefect answer, or something extremely complex, just have a general
idea and a plan, you ll improve it with the help of mentors)
Post it here as detailed and concise as possibly.
Stay on IRC, discuss with them.
This goes for all students. Stop thinking mentors aren't interested in your
project. In an ideal world, if they d have enough time, they'd work with
anybody. Contributors are more than welcomed to any open source community!
Put effort into what you ask, into how you ask and you'll get feedback.
Like all things in life, the more you put into it, the more you get out of
it.
Good luck, Alex! I'm really looking forward to seeing your proposal !
Regards,
Andrei
