I suggest defining a very simple goal and working towards it. You arguably proposed the single most difficult proposal of all GSoC applicants, and there is a LOT of potential reference material (several books, theses, and papers) that is relevant depending on what exactly you attempt to accomplish. It’s not as simple as giving you a couple references to read. I suggest starting with something much more constrained, much simpler algorithmically and code-wise. Consider the canonical Utah teapot, for example. We have a tool in BRL-CAD that generates the teapot in our old bspline representation format, not our new brep/nurbs format. You could try to update the code to our new format. The code is in src/proc-db/tea.c and gets compiled into a binary that is NOT installed, but left in your build-dir as a src/proc-db/tea binary. > Whom should I contact for help because mentors will be busy in other projects? We’re all busy all the time, which is why group mentoring is encouraged. If anyone knows an answer, they should chime in when they can. For asking questions, you should pose them here to the mailing list or (only if you can stay connected) on our IRC channel. Cheers!
