I actually have an idea for a CAD related thesis topic which would be
of some use for BRL-CAD: Boolean operations of non manifold
geometries, or as a subset of solids represented by their bounding
surface. There exists already literature about this, and BRL-CAD
contains an implementation - but as far as I know nobody of the
current developers understand this implementation and it's not stable.
It fails even for rather simple geometries. So, there would be some
really science to do.
