How big is it in terms of #files and du -ks?

Yes, the repo has to be dumped, filtered, and reloaded.

Ditto this.  Stripping things down is fine, but the fewer changes the better — 
ideally a pure subset.

I suggest ignoring.  The inclusion in src/other is merely download convenience 
(and build configuration management).  Even the example programs aren’t really 
a focus for our users — the fact that we’re using any lib should be back-end 
implementation detail like how we use opennurbs (i.e., the 3dm file format) for 
storing nurbs data in the .g file format, but the user doesn’t know or need to 
know.
