1. What are some of the BRL-CAD uses for binary attributes (BAs)? Here are
the few I can think of (with questions or comments):
+ automatic create time and mod time for objects
- Should there be a database (DB) switch to turn on or off (controlled
by a _GLOBAL attribute)? If so, what should be the default?
- Should the [cm]{1}times be removable by the user (maybe controlled by
another _GLOBAL attribute as above)?
+ user-defined, e.g., (1) add files to the DB, (2) add JSON objects to the
DB
- Such use is assumed to be for storage only with no in-memory
representation (except for a minor amount sufficient to allow proper
maintenance for the on-disk DB).
+ other uses by the BRL-CAD code: looking for examples (I'm pretty sure
Sean has more in mind!)
2. If you're interested in BA development, keep an eye on the
"binary-attributes" branch, especially the "README.binary_attributes" file
where I'm trying to document progress and direction (a WIP).
Comments welcome!
Best regards,
-Tom
