New folks continue to join the list, so if you're new -- please introduce
yourself and share a little bit about your interests! Also, be sure you’re
using our checklist: http://brlcad.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code/Checklist
<http://brlcad.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code/Checklist>
Note that modified code in the form of a patch submission or pull request is
required this year. Demonstrate your ability level so we can help you scope a
project accordingly. As the application deadline is quickly approaching, you
need to begin working on a code modification now. If you need help, please ask
specific questions. Asking to be guided or asking for information that is
easily found via search isn’t a productive use of time.
Note that our umbrella org partners deserve more attention from applicants!
Please consider submitting a proposal to work on LibreCAD [1], LinuxCNC,
FreeCAD, STEPcode, or OpenSCAD. If you don’t see a topic you like, talk with
their devs and come up with your own topic.
For BRL-CAD, our priorities this year are:
1) ray tracing performance (continuation of costa’s work last summer), namely
coherent boolean evaluation
2) polygonal export (working on libnmg, replacing nmg boolean eval, or nurbs
boolean eval)
3) geometry/image conversion (continuation of current icv efforts, gcv
step/iges plugin)
4) dimensioning and annotations for engineering drawings (must be detailed and
specific)
5) online geometry viewer (also a continuation, but must be very specific in
goals and integration)
Note that these are just for BRL-CAD — you should talk with our umbrella org
partners to get a sense of their priority topics. Each org will get a student
if there's a strong application, so submit an application with one of them if
you want to improve your chances of getting selected.
Cheers!
Sean
