mainly doing this to make the logo look more prominent over the background,
which does not gives a compelling reason to add a whole big circle to the
logo.
PS: Design is something that often leads to (as sean said) "bikeshed"
discussions which can go really long, unnecessarily. In my opinion frequent
and fast iterations followed by a good review is key. Having different
perspectives over the design will always be there, so a good number of
options and iterations to choose and compare from, often helps us to reach
a consensus.
