Even prior to support for mouse inputs, I think simplicity would dictate simply
drawing a label at a specified coordinate first. The potential for feature
creep and rework is dangerously high as you’re designing a new interface. I
suggest focusing on the bare minimum and adding things one at a time only after
the prior is demonstrably working.

Please keep in mind that you don’t need to speak formally in nearly all open
source communities as respect is earned through actions, not titles. Referring
to people with a sir or madam title is highly unusual (aside from also not
assuming the recipient is a male if you’ve not met them in person) and is
generally not necessary or desirable.

Cheers!
