NOTICE: I intend to move most of BRL-CAD’s active operations off of SourceForge
next year.

Over the next couple months, I’ll be looking at hosting providers and options
for the various features we rely on (like our mailing lists, trackers, code,
etc). If you’d like to help evaluate options, work on a migration plan, have
strong opinion, or want to help with the actual transfers (woot!), please get
in touch.

It’s been a long ride, sometimes torturous, sometimes working fine for years.
When they did their job well, we didn’t know they did anything at all. I do
reflect that we’ve been provided with a plethora of project hosting features
for “free” since 2004, and for that I am thankful. On the whole, most of them
worked most of the time despite a handful of catastrophes. That said, some of
the changes over the past two years in particular have really solidified
dissent as policies being instituted by SourceForge management are negatively
affecting our continued development and operations.

As such, I think we need to move on and forge new relationships with different
providers. This is public advance notice of changes to come next year.
There’s a ton of work to do, like ensuring all data is fully backed up first
and foremost, and it will likely be a gradual process as this affects many
different things. Please send a note if you’d like to take an active role in
the migration.

Cheers!
Sean
