FWIW, I did make an adjustment for -W in the RELEASE branch for 7.30.8 -
doesn't look like I've merged it back into trunk yet, I'll try to get that
done today.

It's probably still worth a look to see if there's a better way to deal
with it - I wasn't thrilled with the "fix" I put in.
