As for creating the ground plane, these steps should help:
run the "in" command, eg, "in ground half" and it'll interactively prompt
you
after that, add it to a region: r ground.ru ground
e ground.r
Go to Combination Editor
select the shader button
add the stack shader
click the add shader button and add checker
click the add shader button and add mirror
apply, close the combination editor window
run this to render it pretty: rt -s1024 -c {set ambSamples=256}
run this to render it on white: rt -s1024 -W -c {set ambSamples=256}
Shouldn't take more than a couple minutes to do that, but it's important to
make it look snazzy. This image is going to be a highlight about the
program sent to our news channels (viewed by tens of thousands) after GCI
is over, so it's worthwhile to make it look great. Your name will be
credited along with the other modelers.
