It's not clear to me how you're getting that rendering as it looks like the
annotation lines are on top of the plane, but I checked the .g and it looks
like it's something we can work with. This is more like what I meant:

That way it is more clear that the wireframe is actually sitting on the
surface and the lines are underneath.
