9?!  That’s getting a bit ahead of ourselves.  :-)

Our current release version is 7.24.2 and our next release will be 7.26.0 … We 
do have a major development line for BRL-CAD 8 under works, but that is not 
expected anytime soon.

BRL-CAD's version numbering system is MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH with changes to each of 
those having a specific meaning.  Changes to MAJOR imply a dramatic 
incompatibility with prior versions, usually indicating a change to the file 
format or some other major change.

We do have a new GUI under development that is currently called Archer and it’s 
currently in alpha.  We’re very much interested in getting it tested with bugs 
and feature requests reported.  It will eventually replace MGED as our primary 
GUI.  There’s lots of possible ways you can help move that along faster — join 
the brlcad-devel mailing list to discuss.
