Hello, I'm forwarding it in case brltty developers don't know about this bug.
thanks. regards Jožef ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Joanmarie Diggs <[email protected]> Date: Mon, 14 Aug 2023 19:07:16 +0200 Subject: [orca] Emergency call for testing re brlapi To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Hey all. A while back Alexander reported that Orca was crashing in Arch due to a brlapi issue. I was hoping the problem was some weird Arch thing, but it hit Fedora 39. I'm guessing it's going to hit other distros too. :( The brlapi crasher can be reproduced in a terminal without Orca running, and quite easily. Orca is doing nothing special. Unfortunately, when Orca attempts to connect to brlapi and this bug is present, Orca crashes hard (as Alexander reported). I have just landed a change in both the gnome-45 and master branches to try to handle this severe bug. It will not -- and cannot -- magically make braille work. Instead, this change has exactly one purpose: Do not crash and keep speaking even when brlapi completely spits up. When the brlapi problem is solved, braille support will resume working. This change should have no impact on anyone with working brlapi. Before I do a "gamma" release to get this change out to distros -- along with a NEWS entry which hopefully distros will read -- I'd really like some testing. Please, please, please and thank you! --joanie _______________________________________________ orca mailing list [email protected] https://www.freelists.org/list/orca Orca wiki: https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/Orca Orca documentation: https://help.gnome.org/users/orca/stable/ GNOME Universal Access guide: https://help.gnome.org/users/gnome-help/stable/a11y.html _______________________________________________ This message was sent via the BRLTTY mailing list.
