Hello all,

I'm sorry to report: the issue is back again; it only disappeared temporarily after the firmware update.

When I start my system, I hear the PC-speaker's sound of the BRLTTY service starting. Orca starts and announces "Screen reader on". I log in and after about three seconds, I hear the BRLTTY service stopping. Orca goes silent and in the dmesg log, I see the connect - 3x error - disconnect.

usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed cmd brltty rqt
>> 128 rq 6 len 255 ret -110

I already have tried a) a previous kernel (6.7.6 instead of 6.7.7), and b) orca from the Fedora repos (i.e. not main or gnome-46 branch). The issue persists.

So, once again, can someone help me solve this issue?

Thanks,
Frans-Willem

Hello all,

Sorry for the noise. After updating the display's firmware version to 5.82-26 inside a Windows virtual machine, the display is back in working order.

Issue solved, kind regards,
Frans-Willem

Dear list,

Running BRLTTY 6.6 (and Orca main) under Fedora 39 with X11.

Since today, my Focus 40 Blue braille display no longer works. Fedora received an update to kernel 6.7.7, but the issue is present with kernel 6.7.6, too.

I have checked the USB-cable and the connections; they are all fine. An older Focus 40 is fine, too.

The BRLTTY service is running and active.
dmesg --follow gives me these lines, over and over again:

[  451.167748] usb 2-1: new high-speed USB device number 50 using xhci_hcd [  451.294407] usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0f4e, idProduct=0114, bcdDevice= 5.81 [  451.294421] usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3

[  459.304865] usb 2-1: USB disconnect, device number 50

I have reset the braille display to its factory defaults (Right selector + Right shift + Left mode + power), but it behaves the same, afterwards.

On a different Fedora 39 system, the issue is the same. My current Focus 40 gives me the above lines in the system log, the older Focus works normally.

Can someone help me pinpoint the issue and make my Focus 40 work again?

Thanks and kind regards,
Frans-Willem
