I think we could do much better than JAWS on Windows with a purely Braille solution. BRLTTY for Android has great use of Braille symbols for stuff like checkboxes. I hope that, since we could grab all information from Linux screens, Braille formatting like headings, bold, italics and such could be more truly displayed using BRLTTY. And, especially if we could type in contracted Braille, I'd really enjoy using it.

Hi,
My opinion:
I am perfectly happy with brltty as it is now. Adding bells and whistle
hahas the risc of making thing complicated and slow and difficult to
maintain. If you want more funcionality go to Windows and buy Jaws.

I am still missing opinions about the things I wrote in my original message.
Especially I'd like to hear from those who actually maintain or contribute to
BRLTTY, because your opinion will be in central role, if some improvements
require changes to BRLTTY as well.

Changes to BRLTTY could for example be new screen drivers, support for other
types of user interface than just terminals (kind of like how BRLTTY already
supports GUI on Android), more functionality to BrlAPI, etc.

Are there people on the list who would like to put their effort into this?

One possible task could be reaching out to developers of desktop screen readers,
AT-SPI and possibly Wayland.

But I also believe that we would need to have a clearer vision about what we
want to achieve, if anything. So please anyone if you have any (possibly
radical) ideas about how the accessibility infrastructure (for braille users)
could be improved, don't hesitate to show up.
