Progress report: If pulseaudio is started system-wide before espeakup, it works: - The system speaks to asks me my credentials. - Thle line is also displayed in tty12. - Then I can press PrtScr on the laptop to stop espeak and type startx. - I have speech on the desktop, also displayed on tty12 - I can then switch to e.g. /dev/tty4 with PrtScr, log in again and have speech. I still can toggle speakup on/off. All go also to tty12. - I can go back to the deskop with Ctrl+Alt+F7 keeping speech. Only caveat: I am aware that running pulseaudio system wide is discouraged including for security reasons. Any advice to avoid that or at least increase security while doing it is very welcome.
