I just did the next test:
- I logged into my Ubuntu Hardy laptop with ssh, since I entirely removed
brltty and brltty-x11 yesterday, hoping the persistent question will
disappear 

- now, thanks to Luke's mail I found "braille=ask" in /boot/grub/menu.lst:
I now removed it

- after this I reinstalled brltty + brltty-x11 

- I only had a look at /etc/brltty.conf and must confirm to DAve that he's
right: brltty.conf is at that moment template (see attach)

- I will now reboot Ubuntu and see what he will do, if something will
override that file, even if nobody asked for doing so.

- OK, there's no longer that question at boot but I got no braille.

- Now I edidte /Etc/brltty.conf, uncomment the right params for my 
"al usb: de" but when erbooting there is no braille. Ubuntu is really making
me crazy!

What now Luke ?
