Yes, I've tried that long ago, but just wanted to know if it works these days.
Also, in lenny do I get udev installed when installing?
If so, can I remove it?
I've heard that I can get problems with loading modules when using udev, I'm
worried for sound, usb drivers for my display etc.

There is a debian installation page that describes how to install it with
brltty.
But I can't find it, can you help me to locate it?
I tried to search on debian.org, but didn't find it, Just chapters about
brltty in some strange languages.
