You're getting brltty commands rather than dot combinations. This is because 
the HandyTech driver has two modes, command and input, and it starts in command 
mode. To switch to input mode you need to press dots 7,8 and the right space 
key altogether. To switch back to comnmand mode you need to press dots 7,8 and 
the left space key altogether.
