I've used the Cygwin binaries a bit and found them helpful,
But wouldn't you actually often build them yourself?
When I get around to it I download the tarball and install it that way. But
until then I enjoyed the ones in the Cygwin distribution though I wished
they worked better. Are they necessary? I suppose not but I liked that they
were there.
