I have also seen an Active Braille crash, mostly likely due to
flooding.  The symptom you describe reminds me about this crash.
Can you try to change the value of UPDATE_SCHEDULE_DELAY in
Programs/parameters.h to see if the problem goes away, if you bump it
from 15 to say, 20 or 25?

Just an experiment though.
