If I understand, the profile is not deduced from the current settings.
It needs to be created manually through a conf file. Shouldn't brltty
set some default profiles for officially supported languages (en, fr, de)?

the actual release is called Language Profiles. It allows you to switch between
different configurations of your locale, speech driver and parameters, and text
and contraction tables without needing to restart brltty. There's a new
document called README.Profiles which describes this feature. For your
