I am sorry that i don't have time to write back right now. If somebody else doesn't help you with this, I'll reply again as soon as I can. But I've been sitting here working on the computer longer than I should have already and I have dinner to fix for my daughter and a class to take tonight. But yes, you do need xcode and its command-line tools and you must install screen, but it has to be a version of screen that has a patch for brltty that can be applied; I think most people are using 4.2.1 now.
