In short, Brmdoor should work again.

Postmortem:

There was a faulty old power supply where capacitor exploded.

In the meantime, battery that was as backup drained over days to a level where
it seemed unrecoverable.

After replacing power supply 1st time, it worked for a while, until it wasn't
able to power the system. Instead of expected 12V input the levels fluctuated
periodically around 4.4-6.8V so Raspberry behind stepdown was in constant
bootloop.

This part was "funny" since Raspi started booting, you could repair/fsck boot
system, but it never got anywhere.

We replaced the power supply again, disconnecting/bypassing the battery, it
seems to be working now and for the love of god I hope the power supply won't
fail anytime soon.
