If you've been watching the news lately, you may know that there's a huge american spy satellite that's out of control and heading to crash into earth. Since it's full of fuel and secret spy stuff, they just announced we are going to shoot it down!! Crazy stuff!
Now, here's why I'm telling you this news - people often ask me how we chose the name "skylab2000". Way back in 1973 the US government launched our first space station. It was called "Skylab". Pretty amazing stuff for it's time, but initially it was plagued with problems. Communications broke down, a solar panel never deployed, and stabilizers didn't stabilize. After a shaky start, the station was very successful and three crews lived aboard over the next few years. Now the bad part! After a few years, it was also about to fall out of it's orbit, and the eighty ton space station was to crash to earth. There was worldwide panic as there was no predicting where it would fall. All over the world there was "skylab panic", and worry that it would crash onto a populated area or a major city. On Tuesday July 11th, 1979, it did crash to earth! Skylab broke apart and hit the ground in an un-populated area of western Australia. No one was hurt and the panic was unfounded. You have no fears of skylab2000 crashing into your house or city, as we will be safely out of orbit all month. Anyway, enough history. WE ARE BOOKING OUR SUMMER TOUR SHOWS.
