So I was going to comment about the format of /etc/hosts and how various things use it to get information and that this would break that... Are you concerned about this? Or are you of the opinion that thinking like that is just holding us back from making meaningful progress? Where this is most significant is with shell programs that are trying to resolve/verify hostnames/addresses but maybe host makes that a non-issue?
