yes, I noticed, but  this is a totally different context- we are not
talking about the namespace for datalinks, but rather 
about a *separator* char between the datalink name (where the exclusion
of '-' has been noted, and serendipitiously ends up avoiding namespace
conflict) and the address slot/identifier itself

it's awful, yes. But as I recall, it was chosen after much debate -
e.g., ":" and "." were unacceptable since they were already part of V6
and V4 addresses.

It would help if Darren clarifies the context in which "/" is used
in ipfilter.
