Irish moss helps to make the beer clear, by getting in touch with some
of the hazy components, and falling to the bottom. In a porter it really
should not matter that much, it will (ought to?) be so black that nobody
can see how clear it is... 

I try to use Irish moss in all my brews, but more often than not I
forget to add it.
