Hi,

I have a printer connected and shared using windows XP.
How do I print using that printer from the BSDs?

Samba + CUPS . BtW you also need a PPD for that printer.

Could you please elaborate?

Check out http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_print_winserver . The CUPS understands smb:// URLs so all you've to do is to just specify the SMB URL + PPD for your printer in CUPS configuration. PPD is the printer driver for CUPS. Following is the ASCII diagram of operation of CUPS:

prints converts from PS to printer's format
[app] ---------- [cups server] --------------------------------------- [
printer ]
      postscript filter + ppd

The printer can be a real printer, or a virtual printer.
