My CPU supports hardware virtualization. So I'm using KVM.

Xen's strength is that it works without hardware virtualization. But it
suffers from having a smaller installed base than Linux. So if you get a
random x86 box, the chances of running into booting problems is higher with
Xen vs Linux.

Some versions of vmware use Linux as a bootloader to work around this very
problem I think.
