Hi All,
At about the half-way point in the English survey, we have
399 responders who have completed the survey. We have
far fewer than that for the other languages. I encourage
you to advertise the survey in any non-English forums you
participate in. If your desired language is not listed yet,
check back in a day or two. All surveys will run for at
least 30 days.
I thought it would be interesting to peek into some of the results
keeping in mind these are preliminary-

A few comments from various comment boxes:
-------------------------------------------
- It's often awkward to pick the right frequenty-answer.
- it's tough to use the 'how often' part for some of these
questions. Some people build machines every day others once a year.
- looks good so far. . .
- i don't like the age question. . . it makes me feel old. ;-)
- i hope you dont sell spammers your email adress db
- I think that certification of BSD is very impotent step on
population platform on world...
- A "once only / barely" option for "how often" would have been helpful
- a lot of the questions have no appropriate answer in the frequency
of occurrence category, which makes the answering a bit awkward.
- use a more plain english for none english readers
- very stupid questions and answer organising
- Well, there are some questions where the correct answer about
frequency must be `once per system'. For example, edititng
login.conf and disabling root logins
- what's wrong with using radio boxes instead of check boxes?
- Why not use radio buttons instead of checkboxes?
- Why on earth are these sections not made with radio buttons that do
allow participants to select only one answer?!
>From the last page:
------------------------
- one exam but HARD to pass: I don't want a supermarket certification,
I want a VALUABLE certification. or two certification, entry-level
and advanced, baut still hard (ie: no questions like "how do you
see file size with ls?", ...).
- One exam per BSD.
- I think 2 or 3 is the most useful (where 3 is entry, intermediate and
advanced). A full track can be confusing and doesn't necessarily
add any value from what I've seen (the possible exception I can think
of here is tracking on the various flavours of BSD).
- I think it would be nice to have different cerifications: 1) Base BSD
user Certificatiion (install, upgrades, standard workstation usage
etc) 2) Advanced BSD user Certification (backup, configuration,
recovering, upgrading, kernel and source compilation, panic dump
and submitting to core developers) 3) BSD Certificied Network
Administrator (dhcp, www, securing server, pf, network troubleshooting
with bsd tools) 4) Core Certification (tuning, armoring, troubleshooting,
advanced backup, advanced recovering, using bsd to secure networks,
bridging, pf, ids,etc....)
- I think there must be 3-4 levels... For novice (assisting) admin, For
standalone admins, For some kind of advanced admin/developer kids.
And on the language questions:
-----------------------------
247. Are you interested in seeing BSD certification exam(s) available in
languages other than English?
Yes 44.6%
No 51.6%
248. If yes, which other language? (Just the the most fun answers!)
- ...popular ones?
- any
- Any and all languages
- Any language spoken by a BSD admin.
- Esperanto
- Klingon
===========================================================================
After the surveys are ended, all results will be made public as we
analyze the results. Again keep in mind, the results above are
preliminary.
Thanks to all responders!
Best Regards,
Jim B.
