People, you say it should be by version number, but you're forgotting this:
THE CERTIFICATION IS NOT OS SPECIFIC.

Also: you can't track recertification to release numbers without biasing
in favour of one flavor. If the cert tracks FreeBSD releases, what does
that say about the relevance of the release schedule of OpenBSD? If this
was the "FreeBSD Certification" the answer would be easier, but it's not.

The certification likely will be flavour specific.

The roadmap says that the upcoming development will include deciding on which BSD(s) and versions(s) the examination will cover. If you are interested with assisting with this, please volunteer for the "Certification Definition Subgroup".

This decision will be made by early October (also according to schedule
defined in roadmap).

Having flavour specific certs will cost more in time and money, but I don't see how we can have a cert that has value that tries to cover all the *BSDs. (I mentioned several reasons on this list several months ago.)
