--- Begin Message ---Well, what can I say? The new year is right around the corner and the sunset on a wonderful year looks amazing. It's been a very long and productive year and 2006 is gearing up to be my most successful year yet. With shows booked through May 2006 you're going to see a lot of me. Along with a couple of long delayed new projects including "The Balance" and "Deciphering Jibberish." So in the meantime I wanted to send you a little note since I've been so off my job with not sending them for so long, so this one might be long. This past 2 weeks has been horrible I was sick with the flu and got my whole family sick. But the high point definitely came when we took Lani to Disneyland for the 1st time. Even though I was sick I enjoyed almost every minute of it. There were moments of achy feet but I was able to put it aside for the sake of the Happiest Place on Earth. Now which is happier Disneyworld or Disneyland and if it is Disneyworld then I want my money back. Until I experience complete happiness...I'm just rambling. As you may or may not know I've been suspended from the National Poetry Slam for my part in protesting ABQ's win this past August. I"ve been kicked out for 18 months so I will be turning the team over to Brutha Gimel who will run the daily operations(makes it sounds more involved) but I will still coach and Slammmaster the team even though I can't 'officially' sign on behalf of the team. Whatever works, plus, we're about to be smooth in the new year. The only part that sucks about getting suspended was Poetri and I were going to go out for the team but since I can't Poetri's not going out either so it leaves a wack taste in my mouth. But, if/when we win again we're going to retire the team and keep the trophy forever. Anyway, back to the reason I sent this email. Here are the updates...in no particular order.*GO OUT AND BUY THE CURRENT ISSUE OF COMPLEX MAGAZINE WITH USHER AND JOI BRYANT ON THE COVER!!! THERE'S A FULL PAGE FEATURE ARTICLE/INTERVIEW WITH YOURS TRULY. MAKE SURE YOU PICK IT UP AND THEN SEND THEM AN EMAIL OR LETTER TO LET THEM KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. *The date for my 'haircut' is Decmeber 31st. I'm a little unsure on how much I'm cutting but initial impulse is to cut it completely off. Will I lose my powers? *Tuesday December 6th - Will be my last out of town show for the year. I'll be at University of Connecticut for a 7pm show with a Q&A afterwards so anyone in the area make sure you come through it's going to be good. *Da' Poetry Lounge is launching DPL Productions, January 1st, 2006 which is a boutique booking agency for poets/artists. With the intent on getting poets/artists work in the new year and giving them the tools necessary to go about finding work. I'll let you know more about it in the next update. Website coming soon... *The Ink and Think World Tour is gearing up for it's re-launch January 15th with shows running through the end of May. About 30 gigs are already confirmed with more to come and the 'Official' Ink and Think World Tour Calendar is on it's way... This coming Febraury is looking to be my most busy February in the history of Februarys for me. With about 15 gigs, meaning I'll be out of town almost the entire month. I'm telling you it's gonna be fresh. *Over the passed few months, I've made almost 25 planes trips including the long one to New Zealand. I'm heading back to NZ in February and April along with Brutha Gimel . We'll be touring with NZ's biggest selling Hip hop group Nesian Mystic. I recorded 2 songs for their upcoming CD and both are pretty fresh. I'm also talking to some people about possibly doing a project for a NZ/Australian release. That means it wouldn't be available in the US at all(well, maybe on my site.) I think it would be dope experience using all Pacific Islander producers and recording it there. Just to put a different energy on it. *The Documentary 'Spit' that I co-produced as well as featured in is in talks with several distributors about a 2006 release and it's also being submitted for the various film festivals. So you know I'm defintely going to keep y'all posted on that. How belafonte would that be to go to the movie theatre and watch some poetry? *There are also talks of a possible new 'Untitled as of yet Poetry Show' They're just talks though, but, if anything further develops you'll be the 1st to know about it. *People have been sending me emails about the future of HBO's Def Poetry and to my disappointment there are no current updates as to the future of the show. There is a possibility of the show coming back but no official word has been given. More news coming. *Xmas is coming and I wear a size 10 shoe, XL shirt, 36/32 pants and I like new socks. Lani wants everything Princess. *Auditions for the Spokenword Fest at the Pan African Film Festival is being announced next week. So anyone interested in audtioning for that check their site for more info: www.paff.org *DPL will be closing for the last week of December for the holiday and will be reopening January 3rd. In the meantime, don't forget about me, I'm not dead, just busy as hell. My next update will be January 1st. Until then be safe and check me out on my journals page of my site. Stay Belafonte and never let your pen dry.
