My Dear Buddies,
I am not asking for money! I am asking you to help us save Historic Virginia Key Beach Park. We have been told by several reliable sources that the City of Miami budget for 2010 does not show any money for Historic Virginia Key Beach Park. Normally on an annual basis the City funds the operation of the Park for employee salaries and insurance, rental of the office space, etc. The 2010 budget is not showing any money for the Park. We are told they do not plan on sun setting the Trust; they just will not fund us. They will only provide Fire, Police, and Public Works. This means the Park will have NO employees, NO Park office, NO concerts, NO events, NOTHING. We all know what will happen. The Park will go into ruin as it did in 1982 and eventually it will be closed. We cannot let this happen again. We cannot let history repeat itself. We are also told that Bayfront Park Trust is scheduled to receive 6 million dollars to run their Park in 2010. Bayfront Park makes money with concerts and they actually give money back to the City. The issue is we have only been open since 2008. Our staff at the Park is currently working with concert promoters like AEG, the promoters for the Michael Jackson concert. We need time to get our concert and event schedule up to where it needs to be. As some of you know we have the Renaissance Fair coming in January and hopefully this will be an annual event. The City is and will say they have a deficit. But if they can fund Bayfront Park, why can’t they fund HVKBP? I am asking, no I am begging you to send the letter attached to your commissioner if you live in the City of Miami and if you don’t live in the City just email the letter to, [email protected]. This is the email for Commissioner Mark Sarnoff; the Park is located in his district. You can also send it to the Mayor of Miami, the email address is, [email protected]. This is a letter of support you can print or email to friends, neighbors and associates to sign and/or add comments then forward to their commissioner or Commissioner Sarnoff or any commissioner and/or the Mayor of the City. If you could send this letter to everyone you know and just have them email it to Commissioner Sarnoff or the Mayor maybe we can save the Park. You can forward this email to your friends and family or write your own, just as long as we get the word out and get as much support as possible. I will forever be grateful for your help. It is important that the commission when considering how to prioritize the uses of limited dollars, it is essential to recognize the impact the Park has on the education enrichment and the quality of life in the City of Miami and Miami Dade County. Please call me or email me with any questions. I really appreciate your help. The worse part of this situation is the Park is a place where all communities come together regardless of race, religion, or origin. It is a place of healing and means so much to our community. This Park means a lot to so many people. Please help us save it.
