I agree that there is a yes and know answer to most things but I think anyone in their right mind would be hard pressed to find a "yes" to Casa Poporului. And those who do are being either gracious or delluded or forced to do so.
The point in all of this is that at some stage people have to say NO! to reaffirm their boundaries and their rights. It is not sufficient to wait for some bureaucrat to respect, and let's be practical about it, remember your rights over his/hers work pressures. If we don;t say No! they have no reason to do so. The next question is where a contest of these opposing opinions can be played out, is there a forum to do so? is there a process that allows an 80 year old citizen with no income to challenge the local authority over what is effectively theft of his parking space, be it for several days only? Without such a forum people will not say NO, at least not publicly and in a way which can actually achieve something. I am aware of what happens in civilised countries when government delegations literally invade cities and business owners suffer losses as a result. Governments compensate. Yes it's a hassle but they do because if they don;t they'd be on prime time tv having to explain themselves and their lack of respect for other people's rights. There is more than one way to skin a cat - which is a great expression for saying we can get to the same thing through different means. And Nato in my opinion, could have been a great way to attract attention to Bucharest, the different causes of romania, including the shortcomings of its politicians/ burecaucrats etc. The world media does not turn up to your door step every day, however inconvenienent that is for the moment. Plus you know, it makes for great stories of how bad it all is and gives everyone something to complain about! we need to look on the bright side of life as well. p.s.: Please accept my apologies for writing in English, should i survive my membership of this group 'till the next message i will try and write in romanian (for a good laugh!)
