Yes, I intend to split out the sessions into separate packages. This may not happen until Plasma 6.4 is finally released in a week or so. xorg (or components) can be added as deps of kwin-x11 or the x11 session package or both. In the shorter term I will temporarily add xorg to kubuntu-desktop ** Changed in: kubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of ubuntu budgie bug busters, which is subscribed to magpie in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2114015 Title: Move xorg dependency from desktop-common to all the desktop flavor seeds instead Status in kubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in kwin package in Ubuntu: New Status in lubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: New Status in magpie package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in plasma-workspace package in Ubuntu: New Status in ubuntu-budgie-meta package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in ubuntu-mate-meta package in Ubuntu: New Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in ubuntucinnamon-meta package in Ubuntu: New Status in ubuntukylin-meta package in Ubuntu: New Status in ubuntustudio-meta package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in xubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: There was an announcement [1] this week that Ubuntu Desktop 25.10 will no longer include the Xorg session. Ubuntu Desktop no longer needs xserver-xorg in the default install and is working on removing it there. The 'xorg' metapackage has a hard dependency on xserver-xorg. 'xorg' is included in desktop-common. Therefore, we need 'xorg' to be removed from desktop-common and individually added to all the other Ubuntu desktop flavor seeds. I believe xorg installs unnecessary components and you might want to pick and choose pieces instead. For instance, I don't think most desktops need x11-apps or xcursor-themes. You will need xserver-xorg if you install a session that uses xorg. If you also include a Wayland session, you might want to split the Xorg session to a separate binary package like Ubuntu Desktop 25.04 did with ubuntu-session-xsession to allow people to try uninstalling that package to use only the Wayland session.
