Thanks for additional info. You operate Anubis in proxy mode. This
means, it transfers verbatim all commands and responses between MUA
and MTA. Quoting the documentation (chapter 3 "Authentication"):
proxy
No authentication is performed. Anubis switches to the
unprivileged user and acts as an "SMTP proxy".
(quote ends).
Note "No authentication is performed".
Now, your transcript shows:

that means your MUA (not Anubis) send a malformed username to the MTA
and received failure status. So the error is not related to Anubis.
Please inspect your MUA settings and correct them.
