Hi Jûrgen: Sorry for delayed reply. Just to be sure I did a clean install and update/upgrade of Raspbian “Buster” for my RPi3B+. The default locale was en_US.ISO-8859. I set it to en_CA.UTF8
Apt install subversion, and svn apl@1189, configure, make, make install. That works although there were many compiler ‘note:’ comments during the build. I’ll report on those in a different email. I then removed the apl directory and did an svn of the current revision (1190). This also worked but with the same compile time notes. More information later respect….
