To start this again, I now have a new GNU Emacs 23 and new LaTeX file!

I've save the *output* buffer to AUC-output-buffer-log in utf-8-unix as was the buffer's coding-system (although, I have to admit, Emacs asked me to save in raw-text, which I refused and gave utf-8-unix instead) (when I open it, it opens in ISO Latin-1 and I see line #55 correctly with umlauts ...)
