You should use M-x TeX-submit-bug-report RET for submitting bug
reports about AUCTeX: that way one can check the involved versions.
We had this discussed at some point of time, and I don't quite
remember whether some solution was checked in, or whether Emacs' font
locking internals made that infeasible.
