`C-x o' works in minibuffers as well.
You might like to emphasise: usually.
I tried to move the mouse cursor into the temporary buffer and
concluded: if the mouse does not move, why should C-x o work?
It's probably easy to get into the same situation: get new GNU Emacs
22.0.50, create with the old one a buffer with local variable Mist,
save it to a file. Then open the file in new GNU Emacs!
