Could you send config.log?
It's too late now! I looked into the LOG and saw that GNU Emacs
22.0.93 was complaining about inexistant directories in load-path and
missing files (because AUCTeX variables might be locally adapted), so
I created and copied what it was missing. The fourth configure run
finished without errors – except that I should have better passed a
longer path to --with-doc-dir!
I configure all my Emacsen with --enable-locallisppath=/Library/
Application Support/Emacs/calendar2{2|3}:/Library/Application Support/
Emacs/preview:/Library/Application Support/Emacs/auctex/images:/
Library/Application Support/Emacs/auctex:/Library/Application Support/
Emacs so it complains when these directories do not exist. This might
have caused the errors – although in the LOG I really do not see
anything fail, as is reported when configuering other toolos.
There might be another reason for GNU Emacs failing: a dozen buffers
are opened with directories or files from session and desktop
management.

To most people solutions mean finding the answers. But to chemists
solutions
are things that are still all mixed up.
