I thought it already did.  I seem to remember something about
reallocating this as required.

I have some half-finished changes flying around which are for _not_
allocating memory dynamically, but rather dealing with partial lines
(where is the point in reallocation in order to keep track of content
you are not going to touch anymore, anyway?).  I have to get several
other personal things on track again, and maybe then I'll pick up on
that.
